In celebration of hitting 500,000 followers on Instagram, Big K.R.I.T. has unveiled a brand new track entitled “Mt. Olympus”. Yet as he quickly proves on the self-produced track, he’s hardly in a #goodmood. Instead, Meridian’s most famous son spends nearly five minutes venting layers upon layers of anger and frustration, focusing most of that venom on Big Sean’s “Control”, a.k.a. the song featuring Kendrick Lamar’s industry-halting verse.
While’s he previously said he appreciated Kendrick’s efforts, K.R.I.T. likens the beat to a — um, overworked harlot. “That Control beat is like an ugly bitch that everybody done fucked raw, maybe you hit it / Aww man, I’m more concerned why niggas been texting my cell, calling my phone / Ask me about this Kendrick shit, when he really ain’t even diss me on it / I ain’t really drawing on all this propaganda / Rap shitted by the realest.”
K.R.I.T. has plenty of lightning bolts for others, however, as he also condemns those who would subvert Southern hip-hop (especially trap), calls out capricious radio DJs, and questions folks for a sudden appreciation of his unique drawl when they “couldn’t understand me last year”.
More than being outright confrontational or controversial, the emcee finds a balance between his white-hot rage and delivering some intriguing personal and professional insight. Either way, #lyricalbombshavebeendropped.
