Listen: Flyte’s hypnotic new song “Where Nobody Knows Your Name”

on April 01, 2014, 5:00pm

Last September, rising London four-piece Flyte self-released their Live EP, a Talking Heads-inspired collection anchored by the life-affirming song, “Over and Out”. Since then, the band have toured alongside Bombay Bicycle Club and signed with UK-based label paradYse, where they’ll drop their proper debut single, “We are the Rain” b/w “Where Nobody Knows Your Name”, next month.

While Flyte continued to flirt with New Wave on “We are the Rain”, its B-side “Where Nobody Knows Your Name” is a decidedly more straightforward indie-pop cut. Blissfully laced with glimmering piano and coaxing harmonies, it’s curiously soothing and calls to mind Grizzly Bear’s (and to a larger extent, The Beatles’) more lulling moments.

“We wanted the song to resemble a city commute,” says the band, “the hypnotic trance that one might fall into after travelling the same route year after year.”

Flyte’s debut single is out April 28th via paradYse. Pre-orders are ongoing.

The band will celebrate the release with a special London show on April 23rd at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club; tickets are available here.
