Listen: Hockeysmith’s frighteningly good song “Hesitate”

on April 30, 2014, 6:15pm

Hockeysmith may be a band of sisters, but don’t be quick to peg Annie & Georgie and their long locks for HAIM 2.0. Residing far from the sun-drenched world of SoCal power-pop, this English duo’s brand of fuzzy synth-rock is more reminiscent of noisier acts like Phantogram and Sleigh Bells, with a hint of Little Dragon’s trip-hop heat.

Take for example “Hesitate”, a number that’s unafraid to dole out menacing riffs alongside eerily sensual, hushed vocals. One second you’re taken aback by its frightening undertones, the next you’re lured by the deep, dark secrets these siblings dangle so teasingly. Listen in below.

“Hesitate” is off Hockeysmith’s But Blood EP, due out May 26th via Double Denim Records.
