As previously reported, Epic Records is releasing a new posthumous album from Michael Jackson on May 13th. Entitled XSCAPE, the album features eight unreleased recordings that have been retooled by Timbaland and other big-name producers.
Today, we get a glimpse at the album’s title track (via SPIN). Taken from the 2001 sessions that resulted in Invincible, the funky, future-pop number was co-written by Rodney Jerkins, the only producer on the album who was there for the original recording. Listen in below.
According to a press release, Timbaland and Jerkins, along with Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon, and John McClain, added a “fresh, contemporary sound that retains Jackson’s essence and integrity.” Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid described the process as “contemporizing,” adding, “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with.”
The album will also be available in a deluxe edition featuring the sourced Michael Jackson recordings in their original form.
