Leading up to the release of his forthcoming album, In Conflict, Oscar-Nominated composer and music theory educator Owen Pallett has showcased many sides of his personality through its early singles. The booming rock of “The Riverbed” and the lavishly orchestral “On a Path” still manage to be elegant despite their contrasts in tempo and tone. His latest, “Song for Five & Six”, is no exception, as it makes use of looping electronics with delicate strings and still boasts his meticulous songcraft.
The track’s accompanying video, which was directed by Jeff Scheven, matches its disorienting beauty. It features dancing from students of Canada’s National Ballet School with some impressive choreography courtesy of Robert Binet. Watch it below.
In Conflict will now be released on May 27th via Domino Records (It was originally due out May 13th.) Pallett’s first full-length effort since 2010′s Heartland, it was recorded by Mark Lawson at Hotel2Tango and Arcade Fire’s Sonovox Studios in Montreal. It spans 13 tracks and features Brian Eno on synth, guitar, and vocals as well as string arrangements from the Czech FILMharmonic Orchestra.
Pallett will also be going on tour this May. His full schedule is below.
