Swans have unveiled “Oxygen”, the second track from their crowd-sourced thirteenth studio album, To Be Kind, due out May 13th via Young God/Mute Records. Despite being a full minute longer than the already-lengthy “A Little God in My Hands”, “Oxygen” is a much less daunting musical endeavor.
Layering in bits of funk guitar and rhythm, group harmonies that evoke nights at the pub, and a cannonade of drums, the band’s emerged with something playful and energetic. Don’t worry, though, as the Fun Train eventually takes a turn for the
Swans worse, devolving into a familiar barrage of primal angst and bone-jarring noise. But, hey, it’s a damn groovy time while it lasts.
