Earlier this year, former R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck released the amazingly-titled album I Am Back To Blow Your Mind Once Again and now, he has another surprise up his sleeve. According to the Portland Mercury (via Pitchfork), Buck has teamed up with ex-Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Corin Tucker for a new band, tentatively titled super-Earth.
Also featuring Buck’s touring band of guitarist Scott McCaughey (Minus 5), drummer Bill Rieflin (Swans, Ministry), and guitarist Kurt Bloch (ex-Fastbacks), the newly-formed super group will make its live debut tonight at Secret Society Ballroom in Portland, OR, “performing an entire set of soon-to-be-album-sized new compositions” from Buck and Tucker.
This isn’t the first time Buck and Tucker have collaborated together. In 2012, Tucker sang on Buck’s self-titled solo debut as well as on I Am Back To Blow Your Mind Once Again. And last year, when Sleater-Kinney briefly reunited to perform a rousing cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” with Pearl Jam, Buck and McCaughey were also onstage. More details about this supergroup will undoubtedly arise in the coming weeks.
