Watch: Bruce Springsteen performs “Linda Let Me Be The One” for first time ever

on April 30, 2014, 8:30am

Perhaps rejuvenated by a new exercise regimen, or maybe he’s just doing it in spite of Courtney Love, but Bruce Springsteen’s spent the last several months revisiting his ginormous back catalog. In addition to a slew of brand new covers (ranging from AC/DC to Lorde, Pete Seeger to The Bee Gees), The Boss has offered up only the third-ever performance of “Hearts of Stone”, the first-ever full band version of “Iceman”, and the second-ever complete run-through of 1973’s The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. (Plus, he’s dusted off rarities like “Stand On It” and “Save My Love”.) And all that’s just since mid-January, folks.

During last night’s show at BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL, Springsteen continued his sonic exploration, performing the Born To Run outtake “Linda Let Me Be The One” for the first time ever. Given Springsteen wrote the song nearly 40 years ago, it went as well as you might expect: “We fucked the whole thing up right there,” Springsteen exclaimed about half-way through the performance. “I told you it was the first time!” Fortunately, they nailed it the second go-around. Watch fan-shot footage below.

The rest of Springsteen’s 27-song performance included an opening run of The Clash’s “Clampdown”, a cover of John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom”, “Hearts of Stone” with the entire E Street Band, the ’78 intro of “Prove It All Night”, and more. Check out the full setlist below.
