With her model good looks and wounded songbird vocals, Sky Ferreira doesn’t look like she’d harm a fly. (Maybe just write a really scathing song about it?) But in the video for the Night Time, My Time standout “I Blame Myself”, director Grant Singer flips the script, casting Ferreira as a drug-turf enforcer. Yes, little Sky tangles with the cops, cruises the street in an old Cadillac, and generally puts off the vibe that she’s going to smack someone with a piece of rebar. That is, however, until the sleek and sultry choreographed dance number brings everything back in the realm of pure pop fantasy. And I was just ready to start saying “Sky’s coming yo!”
“It’s obviously based off of real events… people always ask me questions about certain things, and it’s kind of like my response,” Sky said of the video’s depiction of her and her gang’s arrest. “I think actions speak louder than words.” Presumably, she’s referencing last fall’s incidents, when her and boyfriend Zachary Cole Smith (of DIIV) were arrested for drug possession.
