In less than two years, Charlotte, NC’s It Looks Sad. has gone from an unknown group of musicians with an exhaustive moniker (Looks Sad, That’s Why I Said It’s You) to a full-fledged touring band signed to Tiny Engines. Along the way, they’ve shortened their name, shared the stage with The Front Bottoms, and recorded their debut 7-inch, which will be released shortly.
The latest taste of that debut, “Raccoon”, captures the current and fresh feeling of the band. Shimmering guitars invoke a summery, DIIV aesthetic, while the vocals could easily fit on a less-subdued Real Estate track. It’s an approximation of chillwave trends that feels far from a bandwagon attempt, more like a celebration of indie-rock as it sounds in 2014. Listen in below.
