If you recall, Paul Simon and his wife Edie Brickell were arrested on Saturday following a domestic dispute at their New Canaan, Connecticut. Sort of. By Monday, the local police revealed that the altercation was “a very common domestic dispute” in which they were “obligated to make an arrest.” Later that day in court, both Simon and Brickell told the judge they felt the protective order to be unnecessary. Shoot to today, that’s Thursday people, and they’re back with a new song, aptly titled, “Like To Get To Know You”.
Over folksy strums, the two extrapolate on what they share, from family to pets, and how they surprisingly don’t know each other. Is this a coincidence? Did they write the song on Tuesday? Whatever the case, it’s a humbling afternoon ballad about the oddball truths of old love. “I’d like to get to know you again,” they both contend. Ah, if only my parents were this adult (and talented) enough to have done something similar. Anyways, download/stream the track below and then re-watch Annie Hall or revisit Bookends. Something.
