Listen: Phish’s new song “The Line”

on May 27, 2014, 11:21am

On June 24, Phish return with their new album, Fuego, via JEMP Records. The 10-track effort serves as their 12th LP to date and was produced by veteran studio genius Bob Ezrin (Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Pink Floyd). According to drummer Jon Fishman, it captures the legendary jam band’s live spirit better than any other release.

“For years, there’s been a distinct difference between how we did things live and how we did them in the studio,” he said in a press release. “But the way we go about things live, the way the musical ball is passed around, is now happening much more in the studio – not because we’re trying to duplicate how we play on stage, just because this is how we operate as a band, period.”

Our latest taste of Fuego comes in the form of “The Line”, a song Phish penned as a dedication to Darius Washington, Jr. a University of Memphis basketball player who missed two crucial free throws that cost his team the game in the 2005 Conference-USA tournament.
