Mike Watt announces new album with Il Sogno Del Marinaio, plus U.S. tour dates

on May 19, 2014, 12:30pm

Avant-garde punk legend and former Minutemen bassist Mike Watt will hit the road this summer with his latest project, Il Sogno Del Marinaio (translated as “The Sailor’s Dream”), a collaboration with Italian musicians Stefano Pilia and Andrea Belfi. The tour comes in support of the band’s new record, Canto Secondo, out August 26 via Watt’s own Clenchedwrench.

Canto Secondo was recorded over eight days last December in Bologna, IT’s Vacuum Studio. Though the outfit will be touring the U.S., their Italian heritage is of great importance to Watt. In a press release, he says their Italian name was chosen to honor his collaborators and the land they worked in together.

“My first time playing in Italy was in 1983 and I’ve done lots of gigs since but never like this, collaborating with her native sons,” Watt says. “I am intrigued by the works of both Stefano and Andrea and am quite interested in sailing their seas of music and how they merge with mine.”

The 52 date tour kicks off this September. Consult the full schedule below.
