Word recently surfaced of a new collaboration between R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck and Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Corin Tucker. Dubbed super-Earth, the duo debuted “an entire set of soon-to-be-album-sized new compositions” during a pair of concerts in Portland last week.
For their pair of live performances, super-Earth’s lineup was rounded out by Buck’s touring band of guitarist Scott McCaughey (Minus 5), drummer Bill Rieflin (Swans, Ministry), and guitarist Kurt Bloch (ex-Fastbacks). In the studio, they added another impressive piece to the puzzle, as former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic took part in a recent session. The news comes from Lance Bangs, who tweeted the above photo.
In his review of super-Earth’s second Portland concert, David Greenwald of Oregon Live described the music as “speedy and loud, was full of power chords, enthusiasm and the occasional signature Buck arpeggio — less punk rock than power-pop but always knife-sharp.”
