Terrible news to report: the Morrissey Twitter account that captivated the entire world for the last 48 hours is, in fact, a fake. Despite being officially verified by Twitter and featuring several very Morrissey-esque tweets, the account is run by someone other than Moz.
The heart-breaking revelation came via a statement issued to Morrissey’s unofficial official site True to You:
I would like to stress that I do not have either a Twitter or a Facebook account. I gather that a Twitter account has been opened in my name – as ‘It’s Morrissey’ – but it is NOT Morrissey. I do not know who has opened this recent Twitter account, but please be aware that it is bogus. That’s, of course, if you should remotely care.

Those hoping to glean life advice from Morrissey can still consult The Smiths Flow Chart. And if you’re looking for a funny line or two, let me direct you to this list of his best quotes. But, yeah; it looks like any chance of Morrissey tweeting about his soggy french fries from a McDonalds drive-thru just went out the window. Fortunately, there’s still a new album to look forward to and, last we checked, Moz has yet to get in any fights that would potentially derail his ongoing U.S. tour.
