VH1 to launch new music show SoundClash, produced by Questlove

Late-night shows aside, America is in serious need of more performance-based TV series. Sure, Austin City Limits is still going strong, but similarly iconic programs such as MTV Unplugged and Soultrain have fallen by the wayside. VH1, of all places, is about to change that. According to USA Today, the network is launching a new performance-based television series called SoundClash.

The weekly program will be produced by Questlove, hosted by Diplo, and feature three bands on-stage together, performing each others’ songs, as well as covers and other collaborations. So it’s sort of like Later… with Jools Holland meets Bonnaroo’s SuperJam?

SoundClash will premiere on July 23rd with the one-two-three punch of Lil Wayne, Fall Out Boy, and London Grammar. The following week’s episode, set for July 30th, will feature Sia, Grouplove, and Ed Sheeran.
