Only a few months after making his mark on Beyoncé’s surprise self-titled album, songwriter/producer Jordy Asher, a.k.a. Boots, released his debut mixtape, WinterSpringSummerFall. The 16-track collection touched on everything from disco and old-school R&B and featured collaborations with the likes of Jeremih, Shlohmo, Sia, Son Lux, and even Queen Bey herself. This week, Asher reveals the official video for the mixtape ballad “EST”.
Directed by Asher himself, the visuals are meditative and soothing, a sort of artistic travelogue that captures his adventures through a very personal and magical lens. The globe-trotting clip comes as no surprise, as Asher’s claimed that he’s directly inspired by his immediate surroundings: “Everything sounds like music to me, so sometimes when I hear things in the city or in nature, I’ll record those sounds and put them into songs”, he said last month.
Here on “EST”, he contemplates deep love the only way I personally know how, by looking out the window of a train, staring at the sometimes ugly, sometimes beautiful landscapes that the world has to offer. Watch the video below.
