Watch: Courtney Love’s video for “You Know My Name”

Don’t let her countless tirades, the penchant for crunchy power chords, or the occasional lapse in good judgment fool you; Courtney Love is an intelligent and cultured woman. In fact, it’s her interest in highly-conceptualized art that helped inspire the new music video for “You Know My Name”, off Love’s recently-released double A-side single (which comes backed by “Wedding Day”).

Directed by Maximilla Lukacs, the clip sees Love play “an old Victorian doll crossed with a Dickensian character called Miss Havisham, who got abandoned on her wedding day at the altar and lived to be a hundred”, as Love herself explains. What that actually boils down to is Love looking like a demonic Kewpie doll or the Garbage Pail Kids equivalent of a Bratz figure as she smashes up a hotel room, blows glitter, and jams out on her guitar. Not sure Miss Havisham would approve, but the clip’s nonetheless an intriguing merger of punk rock nihilism, Avant-garde fashion, and our shared love of straight-up breaking expensive shit.

Slap on some white face paint and your most tattered dress and watch it below:
