Last month, Janelle Monáe unveiled her cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, lending an air of playful funkiness to the anthemic rock classic. Today, she returns with the cover’s corresponding music video and boy howdy, is it more uplifting than an entire warehouse full of Hallmark cards.
Directed by Alyssa Pankiw, the clip features a gaggle of bullied school kids who, inspired by a faux Monáe comic book, finally stand up to their pint-sized oppressors. The Avengers this isn’t, but it should provide a bright spot of pure adorableness in the otherwise bleak landscape we call Monday.
Slap on your dad’s old raincoat, call yourself Captain Invincible, and watch it below.
Monáe’s cover is part of Pepsi’s 2014 “Now Is What You Make It” and will soundtrack a Pepsi Max FutbolNow commercial during next month’s World Cup.
