Watch: Mogwai deliver a post-rock extreme sports video with “Simon Ferocious”

on May 12, 2014, 11:14am

I think I’d like sports a lot more if the music that soundtracks the various commercials and promotional videos was, uh, not terrible. For instance, every NFL clip I catch features either Black Eyed Peas or something akin to Creed. More “edgy” sports like skateboarding aren’t much better, more often than not featuring pop-punk garbage like Yellowcard and Sum 41. Thankfully, Mogwai are clearly in the same sports-fan boat as I am, as they’ve released a music video for “Simon Ferocious”, which pairs the Rave Tapes single with extreme skydiving footage.

The result is a breathtaking montage of aerial acrobatics and fantastic poses set to the slow-building deluge of glitchy synth-rock, with the audio and visual components playing off one another near perfectly. It almost makes me want to go skydiving myself, to genuinely let go and just ride the wind and experience that true freedom and sense of vulnerability. That is, if I weren’t afraid of riding elevators past the third story of most buildings.
