Albert Hammond Jr. has some fairly impressive covers in his back pocket, including a quaint version of Big Star’s “Thirteen”, a jangly spin on Guided By Voices’ “Postal Blowfish”, and a peppy take on Frank Black’s “Old Black Dawning”. During a recent gig at UK’s O2 Arena Newcastle, Hammond unfurled something a little bit closer to home, performing The Strokes’ 2013 single “One Way Trigger”.

Since he did co-write the song, it’s not a cover in the traditional sense, as no one is perhaps more aware of the the song’s development and original intentions than Hammond himself. Whatever you call it, though, Hammond and his band deliver a truly rollicking rendition of the Comedown Machine standout, infusing the track with a bit more punk-inspired rawness and zest.
