Grimes wrote a song for Rihanna, but it was turned down

We haven’t heard much from Claire Boucher, a.k.a. Grimes, since she signed with Jay Z’s Roc Nation late last year. But that’s all about to change come this weekend, when she returns to the stage at NYC’s Governors Ball Music Festival.

According to these recent tweets by Grimes, one of the new songs she’s plans to debut at the festival is of particular importance, as it was originally written for Rihanna. For whatever reason, the track, which was co-written with producer Blood Diamonds, didn’t meet the pop megastar’s (or the label’s) standards and was eventually turned down. Your loss, RiRi…

What else might Grimes have in store for the lucky Governors Ball crowd? She’s also apparently “re-recorded and reproduced” all the songs off her last album, 2012’s Visions, “so they are much better now”.
