Listen: Ab-Soul’s new song “These Days”

on June 13, 2014, 8:42pm

With less than two weeks until he releases his latest album, These Days, California rapper Ab-Soul has already shared a few different album tracks: the controversial “Stigmata” and the more jovial “Hunnid Stax”, featuring ScHoolboy Q. Today, Ab-Soul returns with the album’s title track.

Here, production outfit Blended Babies combine the rattling drums of early West Coast rap with the lush group harmonies of a sorrowful gospel ballad. Even though it feels more peaceful and evocative than his recent fare, Ab-Soul leaves plenty of room for rapid-fire rhyming, balancing references to Mini-Me and The Fresh Prince with deeply personal revelations about drug use and severe coping issues.
