Listen: Hiss Golden Messenger’s new song “Saturday’s Song”

on June 24, 2014, 3:30pm

Following their recent signing to Merge Records, North Carolina folk duo Hiss Golden Messenger will release their fifth studio album, Lateness of Dancers, on September 9th.

For the follow-up to 2013’s Haw, MC Taylor and Scott Hirsch (both formerly of Ex-Ignota and The Court & Spark) were joined by several friends and fellow Carolina residents, including guitarist William Tyler, Matt McCaughan, Megafaun’s own Phil and Brad Cook, and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig.

As our first taste, Taylor and Hirsch have unveiled “Saturday’s Song”. Compared to Haw and Hiss’ latest single “Brother, Do You Know The Road?”, “Saturday’s Song” feels downright joyous, a confident, Band-channeling number backed by driving piano chords and skipping lead guitars. It’s a rather refreshing take on the archetypal “I’m ready for the weekend” song, with Taylor humming, “I might get a little crazy/Here comes Sunday waiting for me.”
