Listen: The Due Diligence’s new song “Cool”

on June 13, 2014, 1:30pm

New York’s The Due Diligence embraces soul-singer enthusiasm with punk-rock recklessness. According to a press release, frontman Isaac Gillespie has been known to jump down from the stage during sets and challenge audience members to dance-offs. Now, the outfit is trying to harness that raucous live show with their sophomore record, Are You Down, due out August 5th via Black Bell. In anticipation, they’ve shared the 10-track album’s lead single, “Cool”.

The haphazard energy kicks off right away with fuzzed-out guitars and manic drumming. Gillepsie plays the hype man as he describes everything around him as “cool” with a kind of irreverent, beat-poet nonchalance. The intensity keeps building until Gillepsie finally breaks out into a crazed, James Brown-style shout-fest at the end. Cool, indeed.
