Listen: Warpaint covers Duran Duran’s “The Chauffeur”

on June 16, 2014, 11:12am

As previously reported, Los Angeles record label Manimal Vinyl is celebrating Duran Duran with a star-studded tribute album, entitled Making Patterns Rhyme. Already we’ve heard Moby’s House-inspired take on “Rio”, and today Warpaint unveil their cover of 1982’s “The Chauffeur”.

Here, the Los Angeles rockers convert the twisted, glitchy piano ballad into a warped, slow-moving slice of muted post-rock. Still, even without the aid of Simon Le Bon’s lush wailing, Warpaint still manages to recreate the same mix of deep sadness and foreboding intensity.

Making Patterns Rhyme is due out July 15th, and all sales will benefit Amnesty International. In addition to Moby and Warpaint, the album features contributions from Little Dragon, Austra, Crocodiles, Barbarian, Luxxury, and Soko, among others. Check out the full tracklist below.

Meanwhile, Duran Duran are hard at work on a new album of their own and have enlisted former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante to play on several tracks.
