Queen to release Live at the Rainbow ’74, previously unheard live album

on June 16, 2014, 10:55am

Queen may be gearing up for a North American tour with Adam Lambert, but fans who prefer the band’s original lineup with Freddie Mercury at the helm also have a lot to look forward to. Already, the band has announced plans to release an album featuring previously unheard songs sung by Mercury; now, comes word of a new live album.

Due out September 9th, Queen: Live at the Rainbow ’74 features over a dozen unreleased recordings of the band’s gig at London’s The Rainbow on March 31st, 1974. The performance marked one of the band’s earliest headlining shows, coming on the heels of their sophomore album, Queen II.

The live album was originally set to be released as the band’s third LP, but was later shelved in favor of new studio recordings. Now, 40 years later, a recording of the March ’74 performance, along with a second show at the Rainbow from November of that year, will finally be available in a variety of configurations, including double-disc CD, double vinyl, and as a super deluxe box set featuring a DVD, 60-page hardback book, and more.
