In just the last two days alone, “Weird Al” Yankovic has spoofed hit songs by Pharrell and Robin Thicke, in the process offering up important (and hilarious) lessons in both tackiness and grammar. Now, the paragon of parody unveils the latest target of his good-natured satire, Lorde and her chart-topper “Royals”.
Instead of taking an introspective look at wealth and luxury, as the New Zealand songstress does on the original, the “Weird” one gives a proud shout out to one of man’s greatest inventions: FOIL. What to do when you can’t finish all your dinner? “Aluminum foil / Never settle for less / That kind of wrap is just the best,” he sings so wholeheartedly, backed by a small choir of “foiled” ladies. Glad Wrap, consider yourself out of business.
Below, watch the awesome video, which also features cameos from Patton Oswalt, Tom Lennon, and Robert Ben Garant. And be sure to stick around for the last few scenes for some titillating conspiracy theories that, of course, “Weird Al” would have. (Ed. Note: Props to “Weird Al” for also nailing Lorde’s jazz hands.)
“Foil” is off Mandatory Fun, Yankovic’s 14th studio album, out now via RCA.
