Back in the spring, Mississippi rapper Big K.R.I.T. previewed his forthcoming sophomore album, Cadillactica, by releasing a new song every day for an entire week. Across seven songs, he visited a number of ideas and sentiments, from the boisterous “Egyptian Cotton” to the New Age-leaning “Steps” and even a little friendly satire in “Wolf On Wallstreet”. A few weeks later, he unleashed the album’s earth-shattering, pseudo-diss track/lead single, “Mt. Olympus”.
Today, K.R.I.T. unveils Cadillactica’s latest single, “Pay Attention”, which shows off the emcee’s sultrier side. Over Jim Jonsin’s heavily dramatic beat of bellowing synths and heartbeat-esque drums, K.R.I.T. drops line after line obsessing and romanticizing over a particular young lady in the club. (My personal favorite: “You the type of chick a n***a search for when he have to go out/Spotlight, night life, live in V.I. every weekend”.) Aiding him in his conquest of the heart is Rico Love, whose falsetto, ache-filled chorus rounds out K.R.I.T.’s more boastful tendencies.
