I didn’t really know what to expect from a band called The Death of Pop. Black metal? Trap? Delta blues? Turns out that despite their name, these Londoners aren’t really lamenting the passing of pop music. They’re mostly putting their own spin on it, dubbing their hazy yet addictive sound “Janglegaze”. It’s a rather silly label, but damn, does it ring true. Case in point: their latest single “Mirage”.
Featuring the disjointed beauty of angular guitars and the glimmer of shoegaze’s hazy sheen, the track is entrancing and oddly enough feels sourced from the past, present, and future all at once. Listen in below (via DIY).
“Mirage” is taken from the band’s forthcoming EP, Fifths, due out August 4th via Art Is Hard Records.
