Listen: The Gaslight Anthem’s new song “Stay Vicious”

on July 28, 2014, 10:08am

With their upcoming fifth studio album, Get Hurt, New Jersey’s The Gaslight Anthem promised a collection of sounds and sentiments that have “never been touched by this band before.” Thus far, the foursome has delivered some explosive blues rock (“Rollin’ and Tumblin”) and moody, atmospheric folk-rock (the title track).

Today, the band indulges in a little alt-rock/heavy metal with “Stay Vicious”. Volume and intensity have never been an issue for Gaslight, but here the medley of monstrous guitar riffs and dense percussion have distinct hints of ’90s grunge and a slightly grimier Pearl Jam. Don’t expect the band to rock flannel and long beards any time soon, but the experimentation does add a new sheen of ferocity to their pure rock sound.
