Though Cosigned Philadelphia-based rockers The Districts are currently working on their sophomore LP, they have just announced another release. Entitled The BBC Session, the four-track live EP was recorded during a May 1st visit to BBC Radio 1’s Maida Vale studios. It will be released on October 6th digitally and as a limited edition (500-copy) 12-inch vinyl via their label Fat Possum.
“Silver Couplets” is one of the EP’s four songs. Originally appearing on their self-released debut Telephone, this version has been reworked into a downbeat and heartfelt composition, a far cry away from live bangers like “Rocking Chair” and “Long Distance”. That said, singer Rob Grote works just as well singing the more tender songs as he does with the rockers, as his emphatic live rendition gives the old track a new, rawer feel. In other Districts news, guitarist Mark Larson will leave the band to attend college this fall. He’ll be replaced by the band’s longtime friend Pat Cassidy. The band wrote on Facebook, “We wish ya the best Mark, and thank you mucho, mucho for helping us get this far. We couldn’t have done the past five years without you.”
