El-P and Killer Mike, tka Run the Jewels, are gearing up to release their sophomore album, the follow-up to last year’s excellent self-titled debut. In recent weeks, they’ve shared a number of snippets, and today the pair offer their longest preview yet with a 90-second teaser of “Blockbuster Night Part 1”.

Though brief, the snippet does seem to indicate a continuation of what made the 25th best album of 2013 so entertaining, namely El-P’s brooding, minimalist production, the dynamic back-and-forth interplay, and cutting wordplay (a gold star to Mike for rhyming “cuckoo” with “buku”).

According to a tweet from earlier today (July 29th), Run the Jewels 2 is “one day away from being fully mixed”. As previously reported, the LP is set to feature contributions from Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack De La Rocha and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

A more substantial Run the Jewels offering comes on September 15th, when the pair release a new song as part of the 2014 installment of Adult Swim’s Singles Program.
