Avi Buffalo shares new song, “Memories of You”, announces tour dates

on August 04, 2014, 12:05pm

With the forthcoming At Best Cuckold LP, Avi Buffalo mastermind Avi Zahner-Isenberg focused more on writing ballads, using “classic-sounding melodies (that) are delivered with a modern sensibility” to craft a “quirky yet comforting set of songs.” That dynamic epitomized the romantic lead single, “So What”, and now the Long Beach alt rock outfit show off more of the album’s “glorious orch-pop sheen” with “Memories of You”.

Whereas “So What” saw the band draw inspiration from The Shins, “Memories of You” features more of a hodge-podge of influences. There’s some bright, upper range harmonies ala the Beach Boys; jangly folk rock reminiscent of a slightly grimier Woods; and sweltering guitar solos bordering on Thee Oh Sees-level intensity. Yet the way Avi Buffalo spin these elements together is wholly unique, resulting in something that’s neither psych rock, pop, folk, or indie rock, but a dazzling and enchanting synthesis.

At Best Cuckold is due out September 9th via Sub Pop. In support, the band has announced a U.S. tour that runs from late October through mid-November. Consult their full schedule below.
