De La Soul team with Pete Rock and DJ Premier for new mixtape

on August 06, 2014, 10:15am

Between the release of their Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. mixtape and the reissuing of their back catalog, De La Soul have had one of their most prolific years in recent memory. Next up on the agenda? A mixtape helmed by legendary producers Pete Rock and DJ Premier.

Speaking to XXL, De La Soul’s Dave said the trio will begin recording the project in September. “Right now we’re just accumulating beats. The guys have been sending us beats. No real idea of what the theme is gonna be, the theme behind the title, what that’s gonna be, if it’s gonna be skits, if it’s gonna be songs, remakes, whatever it is. Right now we’ve just been accumulating beats and waiting for Premier to handle some stuff as well. So it’s still in its early stages, but we actually plan on recording through the month of September for it, so we’re getting on it.”

In the coming months, De La Soul also plans to release an album of live instrumentation.
