Listen: Dinosaur Feathers’ new song “Zeitgeist”

on August 15, 2014, 10:45am

Since emerging from the Brooklyn DIY scene a few years back, synthpop outfit Dinosaur Feathers has continually re-tweaked and adjusted its sound. The band’s last record, 2012’s Whistle Tips, saw them embracing the quirky idiosyncrasies of indie rock with jaunty guitar lines and feverish vocals, leading to tours with Built To Spill and Peter Bjorn & John. Now, the duo is taking a leap forward by incorporating Motown into the mix with their third album, Control, due out October 7th via Ernest Jenning Record Company.

Despite having a rather ominous title, lead single “Zeitgeist” sees Dinosaur Feathers at perhaps their most chipper and soulful. Vocalist Greg Sullo tenderly croons over delightfully cheesy synthesizers and snappy, ’80s drum beats. As the saxophone comes blaring in during the chorus, Sullo lets loose and dramatically wails, “Every night I die to be reborn in the morning time”. It’s a far cry from their previous work, but with Sullo’s powerhouse vocals, it’s a welcome change of pace.
