Listen: How To Dress Well’s new song “So Easy For Pleasure”

on August 23, 2014, 1:04pm

Back in June, alt R&B singer Tom Krell, aka How to Dress Well, released his excellent new album, “What Is This Heart?”, through Weird World/Domino. The album’s deluxe edition includes a 28-page photo booklet and a bonus 10-inch featuring two non-album tracks. Of those tracks, we’ve already heard the soulful “Let U Know”; now, “So Easy For Pleasure” is streaming below.

Like its similarly minimalist predecessor, “So Easy For Pleasure” finds Krell crooning falsetto over elegant piano and the haunted echoes of back-up vocals. While his writing has always had a tinge of pained self-awareness, Krell’s deeply forlorn lines about how “it’s so easy for pleasure to recast itself as pain, to return from which it came” feel especially immediate and vulnerable.

The deluxe version of “What Is This Heart?” is available here. In continued support of the album, Krell will be on tour this fall, including festival appearances at Hopscotch and First City. Consult the full schedule here.
