Listen: Ryan Adams shares studio version of “My Wrecking Ball”

on August 13, 2014, 3:45pm

During his set at the Newport Folk Festival last month, Ryan Adams previewed several songs from his upcoming self-titled studio album. Today, the studio version of one such track, “My Wrecking Ball”, has made its way online. The minimalist ballad finds Adams delivering his most haggard, emotionally vulnerable croon over gentle acoustic guitar and the light twinkle of background ambiance. However, Adams’ lyrics (like talk of kicking folks in the butt) and gritty worldview keep this from simply being more “slow, adult shit.”

Ryan Adams is due out September 9th via Blue Note and Adams’ own Pax-Am label. Also, check out the recently released video for lead single “Gimmie Something Good”, plus a live performance of the album track “Stay With Me”. And, don’t forget his moving cover of Grateful Dead’s “Wharf Rat”.
