Listen to “Brass Cupcake”, a new song from Melvins-Butthole Surfers super group

on August 22, 2014, 1:15pm

As previously reported, sludge rockers Melvins tapped Butthole Surfers guitarist Paul Leary and bassist J.D. Pinkus to record their upcoming 23rd studio album, Hold It In, due out October 14th via Ipecac Recordings. Today, the temporary super group has unveiled two album tracks: “Bride of Crankenstein” is available now on iTunes, while “Brass Cupcake” is currently streaming online.

Combining Melvins’ grit and grim with Butthole Surfers’ country-fried swagger, “Brass Cupcake” balances angst-ridden dissonance with alt rock playfulness.

“‘Brass Cupcake’ is possibly my favorite track on Hold It In! We wrote this song with Pinkus and Paul in mind, once we knew this project was a go,” said drummer Dale Crover in a press release. “It is our version of what we think pop music should sound like. Get ready to freak out!”

Listen to it now over at Rolling Stone.

In support of Hold It In, the trio of Buzz Osborne, Crover, and the Surfers’ Pinkus will embark on a US tour in October. Consult their full schedule here.
