The couple first met at a restaurant where Pegi was a waitress, a story which Neil relayed in the 1992 song “Unknown Legend”. Pegi inspired several other love songs found in Neil’s catalog, including “Such a Woman” and “Once an Angel”.
After marriage, the two became frequent musical collaborators. She toured with him as a backing singer throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In recent years, Neil has returned the favor by accompanying her on tours behind her own solo albums.
In 1986, Neil and Pegi co-founded the Bridge School, which educates children with severe physical impairments (their son Ben suffers from cerebral palsy). Each October, they support the school with an all-star benefit concert in Mountain View, California.
A representative for Neil did not comment when reached by Rolling Stone.
