As The Lonely Island, actors/writers/”rappers” Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone have produced several entertaining albums, numerous Digital Shorts, some hilarious music videos, and a slew of skits on Saturday Night Live. Now, as Variety reports, the trio is about to add a feature-length film to their collective CV with a forthcoming project through Universal Studios.
Writer-director Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, Superbad) will serve as one of the untitled film’s executive producers. The script is expected to be penned by all three Islanders, with Schaffer and Taccone co-directing. As Variety notes, the film’s setting involves the “world of music.” No word yet on when the film will begin production.
Though it’s their first film together under the Lonely Island banner, it’s not the trio’s first silver-screen adventure. 2007’s Hot Rod starred Samberg and Taccone, with Schaffer serving as director. Revisit that film’s greatest scene below.
