RONiiA share new song “Last Words” — listen

on September 30, 2014, 5:20pm

Dark, Dark, Dark’s Nona Marie Invie is known for singing sultry folk ballads, but now she’s stepping into new musical territory with her latest project, RONiiA. Teaming up with Marijuana Deathsquads’ Mark McGee and her fellow FUGITIVE bandmate Fletcher Barnhill, the group blends synthpop and indie rock together with menacing results. The trio will lend the world a proper taste when they release their debut self-titled album on December 9th via Totally Gross National Product.

The album’s lead single, “Last Words”, showcases just how well Invie’s darkening, morose vocals adjust to the sudden genre shift. Her low and stirring voice croons moves slowly, sounding distant behind the sparse drum beats and moody synth grooves. The song hardly builds in intensity throughout its four-minute run opting to wallow in the lovely and minimalist production. It’s a brooding track that plays off all the player’s strengths while creating a sound that’s totally unique to this configuration.
