Run the Jewels release new song “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” — listen

on September 15, 2014, 10:32am

After 14 long weeks, the 2014 installment of Adult Swim’s Singles Program is coming to a close with its final two entries. For the penultimate entry, El-P and Killer Mike, tka Run the Jewels, have contributed  “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry”, which also serves as the second taste of their upcoming sophomore album, RTJ2.

The song represents the core of what makes RTJ so wildly effective, as the two MCs take turns spitting white-hot fire and slinging copious insults over thudding bass and skittish vocal samples. As cutting as the duo’s rhymes may be, the real takeway will undoubtedly be the “robotic voices,” which comes courtesy of Police Academy actor/human soundboard Michael Winslow.

Listen in below.

The 2014 Singles Program has featured original songs from Giorgio Moroder, Deafheaven, Mastodon featuring Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes, Speedy Ortiz, Flying Lotus’ Captain Murphy project, Future, Diarrhea PlanetMachindrum, and Sleep. The series will conclude next week with a track from Brooklyn rapper Ka.

RTJ2 is due out October 28th via Nas’ Mass Appeal Records. Spanning 11 tracks, the album features collaborations with Rage Against the Machine’s Zack de la Rocha, Blink 182’s Travis Barker, Beyoncé collaborators Boots, and Foxygen offshoot Diane Coffee. Listen to the first single “Blockbuster Night”.

Pre-orders for RTJ2 are ongoing and include a few hysterical “bonus” packages for fans with a little extra cash on their hands. One called “The Housesitters Deluxe” ($35K) promises that the duo “will spend an agreed upon weekend at your house where we will smoke all of your weed, listen to your stupid fucking music, and let your mother cook for us.” Another dubbed the “We Are Gordon Ramsey Package” ($150K) involves RTJ self-producing an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, where they will “travel to a restaurant with you of your choice, completely uninvited, and attempt to force them to change their menu. All the while verbally abusing and insulting the entire staff to hilarious effect.”
