Spoon have spent the last few months on the road in support of their latest album, They Want My Soul, impressing local audiences and festival crowds alike on a weekly basis. Last night’s show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin was of particular importance, however, as it marked the first time the band had played in the city since New Year’s Eve 2009. Spoon rang in the new year with Jay Reatard that night, less than two weeks before he was found dead in his Memphis home.

As a tribute to both the late punk rocker and what would be remembered as his final live performance, Britt Daniel and co. kicked off their encore Wednesday night with a cover of Reatard’s “No Time”. The track appeared on Reatard’s Matador Singles ’08 collection, and Spoon actually first covered it back in September 2010.
