The New Pornographers recently celebrated the release of their new album, Brill Bruisers, in the most meta way possible: by performing at New York City’s Brill Building. During the 1950s and ’60s, the 11-story building was essentially the music industry’s songwriting factory, housing many of the offices and studios where pop standards like Will You Love Me Tomorrow?”, “Be My Baby”, and Stand By Me” were written. As one of music’s most prolific bands of the last 15 years, it only seemed appropriate for The New Pornos to name their latest LP after a building with a similar hallmark for consistency.

The September 4th performance featured the entire lineup of New Pornographers, including A.C. Newman, Neko Case, and Dan Bejar. The 14-song setlist featured a healthy dose of tracks from Brill Bruisers as well as past favorites like “Mass Romantic”, “Testament to Youth in Verse”, and “The Bleeding Heart Show”. NPR was there to film the entire thing and you can watch it below.

To go along with the live concert film, Newman has filmed a funny sketch with Funny & Die. Comedians Julie Klausner and Jake Fogelnest play the last remaining songwriters in the Brill Building, and to say they’re not a fan of Brill Bruisers would be an understatement. Watch below.
