Alex Zhang Hungtai ends Dirty Beaches

on October 28, 2014, 2:20pm

After performing as Dirty Beaches since 2005, Montreal musician Alex Zhang Hungtai has put an end to the experimental project.

Hungtai made the announcement today via a series of tweets, indicating that Dirty Beaches will come to a close following next week’s release of an instrumental full-length titled Stateless. Without offering specifics, he added that he already has plans to record new material under a different name.

During the course of his near-decade-long career under the Dirty Beaches moniker, Hungtai released six studio albums (most recently 2013’s Drifters/Love Is The Devil), dozens of singles and EPs, and a bevy of collaborations with the likes of Xiu Xiu, Slim Twig, and more.

Check out Hungtai’s tweets below.

Stateless is due out on November 4th via Zoo Music, but is currently streaming in full over at Pitchfork. Below, check out a few selections from the Dirty Beaches catalog.
