Part of the crop of exciting young UK singers and producers including Disclosure, Sam Smith, and Jessie Ware, dance pop duo AlunaGeorge broke through last year with their entertaining debut album, Body Music. Since then, Aluna Francis and George Reid have maintained a jam-packed itinerary: endless touring (including festival appearances at Governors Ball, Made in America, and Coachella, among others); opening gigs for Coldplay and Lorde; and, most recently, releasing a series of self-edits and collaborative reworkings entitled, Body Music Remixed.
Currently, the duo is at work on its follow-up album, set to be released sometime in 2015. In anticipation, they visited Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show Friday evening to debut the album’s first track, “Supernatural”. Based on first listen, AlunaGeorge is spending more time exploring the nooks and crannies of minimalist, deeply passionate blend of dance, pop, and R&B. It’s not quite as progressive sounding this time around, but the duo has found itself in a distinct groove, deftly layering Francis’ lush, soulful croon (who makes young love seem especially magical) over a groovy stream of chunky bass, skittish percussion, and tropical guitars.
