Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks pay homage to classic horror films in video for “Catchy (Was Contagious)” — watch

Flying Lotus’ clip for “Ready Err Not” may contain severed heads and mutant spiders, but let me submit something more subconsciously spooky: the video for “Catchy (Was Contagious)” from Avey Tare’s new band Slasher Flicks.

Directed by Abigail Portner, the black-and-white clip follows a young boy as he encounters a bevy of classic horror movie archetypes, including Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Invisible Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. What it lacks in blood, it makes up for by hitting you in the part of the brain where you’re still a young kid and the whole world is huge and menacing and out to gobble up your bones. One question, though: how does this frail lil’ kid have the stamina of an Olympic marathon runner? Ponder that as you watch below. I suggest gorging on a bag of candy corn or “peanut butter something” while doing so.

“Catchy (Was Contagious)” is off the band’s debut album, Enter The Slasher House, out now via Domino.
