Deerhoof share dizzying new song “Last Fad” — listen

on October 07, 2014, 2:05pm

On November 4th, Deerhoof will return with their 12th studio album, La Isla Bonita, via Polyvinyl Records. The 10-track effort follows 2012’s Breakup Song and was produced by Nick Sylvester (formerly of Mr. Dream). According to the band, the LP draws on a diverse number of acts, including Radiohead, Lou Reed, and Sonic Youth, among others, and came together solely by chance.

“We recorded this record by accident,” drummer Greg Saunier told DIY Magazine. “Those 10 days in Ed’s Portland basement were meant to be for writing and recording demos. It wasn’t till the last day we put it together that the rehearsals should be the album. That’s the way we always did it when the band started out as a lo-fi noise side project so we were super game to go again. And anyway Let it Be was always my favorite.”

Already we’ve heard two album cuts in “Paradise Girls” and “Exit Only”; now, the experimental outfit’s shared  “Last Fad”. A quirky and blitzing art rocker, it features Satomi Matsuzaki’s siren-like vocals blaring over a cacophony of disjointed riffs and dizzying drums.
