Over the weekend, Jack Bruce, legendary bassist and co-founding member of Cream, passed away at the age of 71. Now, Eric Clapton has unveiled a tribute song to his former bandmate simply entitled “For Jack”.
Here, Clapton commemorates his fallen compatriot with a most earnest homage, gently plucking away at an acoustic guitar as he hums ever so delicately atop. Though simple and straightforward, Clapton’s guitar work rides the line between mournful blues and whimsical folk, capturing a wide range of emotions for a musician who no doubt inspired just as many with his own work.
In an accompanying statement, Clapton wrote, “He was a great musician and composer, and a tremendous inspiration to me.”
